Walter Altmann, moderator of the WCC Central Committee, raised the issue of the "prophetic voice of WCC" and asked self critically, whether the WCC has been in the past too reserved to questions like the perverse mechanism of the world economic system, which became obvious in the latest financial crises and had tragic results for many poor people.

He also raised the question whether it was clear enough to ask for the eradication of extreme poverty in the world.
