The Lutheran World Federation (LWF)-run Augusta Victoria Hospital (AVH) in Jerusalem, which provides life-saving healthcare to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, including specialized treatment offered at its cancer, diabetes and pediatric centers, will be the subject of a documentary broadcast on Sunday, September 14.
“Sanctuary: Healing in a Holy Land” by Greater Chicago Broadcast Ministries and Tim Frakes Productions will share stories of hope, faith and courage. These include the experiences of George Abu Saadah, who has been coming to the AVH for kidney dialysis for 14 years, and how every week the Red Nose Clown Doctors help lift the spirits of young patients receiving life-saving treatment for cancer and kidney failure.
The AVH is an important pillar in the Palestinian health system and is widely acknowledged in governmental and church circles for its excellent treatment and care. The hospital recently sent voluntary medical teams to Gaza to help treat the injured in the conflict.
The half-hour documentary will also focus on the LWF Vocational Training Program (VTP) in East Jerusalem and Ramallah. The VTP has been offering vocational training to Palestinian youth since 1949.
“Sanctuary: Healing in a Holy Land” can be viewed at 11.30am Chicago time on ABC7 Chicago, and following the broadcast on Tim Frakes’ website, GCBM.org., and YouTube.
