International young Lutherans to attend Brazil's youth congress
The Evangelical Church of the Lutheran Confession in Brazil’s National Youth Congress has been held since 1970, taking place every two years with objectives that vary according to the challenges faced by youth in the organization. The number of people from the synods taking part has grown over the years. Today the congress attracts 1800 young people.
This year, youth from the IECLB have invited 30 Lutheran youth from LWF member churches in Latin America and the Caribbean and other regions to take part. They hope participants will come up with ideas for themes and activities that lead to mutual enrichment.
The aim is to make the Congress a place for communion-building among youth in the region and young reformers from other LWF regions, to strengthen Lutheran identity, to allow young people to share their gifts, and to recognize that their life experiences serve as assets that will enable all participants to develop and grow.
Expected results:
• Increase understanding of models for diacona and mission that are applicable to the different realities in LAC
• Agree activities for the commemoration of the 500 years of the Lutheran Reformation
• Have an empowered and active LAC youth network
