LWF sends Ramadan greetings to Islamic Relief Worldwide

(LWI) - On the occasion of the beginning of Ramadan, the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), has sent greetings and blessings to its partner Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW). "We would like to wish you, the IRW staff and family a blessed Ramadan," wrote LWF General Secretary Rev. Dr Martin Junge in the letter to IRW Chief Executive Officer Naser Haghamed.

"During this unprecedented time impacted by COVID-19, we also want to express our empathy and solidarity with Muslim staff and faith communities living and working in the context of refugee camps and serving internally displaced persons."

LWF and IRW offered a joint pledge at the Global Refugee Forum in December 2019. The two organizations have joined hands in highlighting the importance of faith-sensitivity in humanitarian work, and the role of religious leaders and faith communities play in refugee response and ensuring that no one is left behind.

"During this time, citizens, policymakers, and governments of each nation are tempted to only look inward. The month of Ramadan that coincides with the season of Easter invites both Muslim and Christian communities to intentionally look outward and support all who are attending to the needs of the most vulnerable," wrote the LWF General Secretary.

"As a significant interfaith collaborator, we look forward to strengthen our shared learning, collective advocacy, and partnership together with you in the coming days."
