LWF joins call of Pope Francis for simultaneous prayer on 25 March

(LWI) - LWF General Secretary Rev. Dr Martin Junge has joined Pope Francis in a call that Christians worldwide pray the Lord's Prayer simultaneously on Wednesday, 25 March.

"Yesterday, Pope Francis publicly invited the Heads of Churches and the leaders of every Christian community, together with all Christians, to invoke the Almighty, Omnipotent God, by praying the Lord's Prayer simultaneously this coming Wednesday, 25 March ideally at noon Rome time, or noon local time, or at any other convenient time of the day," writes Kurt Cardinal Koch, President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity.

The letter continues, "It is my hope that you will join this initiative in which all Christians invoking together the graces from heaven, will ask for the end of this pandemic, trusting in the power of God."

As church, we can no longer gather in one place but in praying the prayer Christ taught us, we are united across our distant spaces and throughout time. Together in prayer, we call upon God’s mercy and power for healing and for an end of this pandemic.

The LWF General Secretary welcomed the call to prayer, which gathers Christians and churches around the globe in a strong ecumenical gesture. "The current pandemic will only be resolved with a concerted effort of people and nations, we need to pray together and work together," said General Secretary Junge.

“As church, we can no longer gather in one place but in praying the prayer Christ taught us, we are united across our distant spaces and throughout time. Together in prayer, we call upon God’s mercy and power for healing and for an end of this pandemic.”
